What is a domain alias and how does it work?

A domain alias is a domain name that is aliased to an existing domain name. The alias domain becomes a duplicate or alternative URL for the original, pre-existing domain name.

If biz-hosting.co.uk is the original domain and biz-hosting.com is the alias domain, then calling www.biz-hosting.com from your browser will display the same website as www.biz-hosting.co.uk.

The same applies to email.

An alias email address can be used for any mailbox on the original domain. Therefore, email to sales@biz-hosting.com can be used as an alias to sales@biz-hosting.co.uk. All email to sales@biz-hosting.com will be collected in the same mailbox as sales@biz-hosting.co.uk.
Aliased email addresses are automatically set up when the domain is added as an alias.
Removing the alias domain name will not affect the operation of the pre-existing domain name. It will however result in the loss of the alias services, unless the DNS information is updated to refer users to a valid website and mailboxes.
The strategy to register multiple domains and alias all the alternative domain names to the original, is commonly used to protect and or monopolise your business identity on the internet.
If you have two domain names that will share the same email accounts and website it is cost effective to alias one domain name to the other. Please contact Biz-hosting detailing both domain names and aliasing will be configured.
Important: Both domain names must be hosted on Biz-hostings' server to activate this option.
